Dining with Diabetes Information Session in Tyrone
Do you or someone you know have type 2 diabetes? Do you have a hard time knowing what to
eat? Do you want to know more about diabetes? If so, then plan to attend an information session about the
program “Dining with Diabetes,” a program for adults with diabetes and their families. An information
session will be held on Wednesday, March 19, 2014 from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at the Northern Blair
Senior Center, located at 505 Third Street in Tyrone.
Blair Senior Services, Inc. and the Penn State Extension are offering this session to anyone interested in
learning more about managing type 2 diabetes. “Dining with Diabetes” is a 4-week program that helps
participants increase knowledge of healthy food choices and includes food demonstrations, tasting of new and
familiar foods, as well as exercise to promote blood sugar control. Participants also test their A1C and blood
pressure, receive a pedometer, exercise DVD’s, stretch band, cookbook and many other materials during the
classes. Class dates are scheduled for April 2, 9, 16 and 30, 2014 at the Northern Blair Senior Center from
12:30 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. with a follow-up class on June 25, 2014. Registration for the classes is required.
Plan to attend this information session to learn if this program is for you! There is no cost for the information
session, but please contact the Penn State Extension Office at 814-940-5989 to register or for additional
information. Medicare and Medicaid beneficiaries can attend the classes at no charge. Fee is $40/person for
all others. Limited numbers of scholarships are available.
