HGR Recap 10/27/13: We Welcome Guest Jason O!

Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the October 27 edition of Rocky 104.9 and Rocky 99's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 9 to 11 PM on WRKY-FM (www.rocky1049.com) and WRKW-FM (www.rocky99.com).

Thanks to this week’s guest, State College-based singer, songwriter, solo artist and My Hero Zero frontman Jason O (http://www.jasonomusic.com/)! We learned about Jason and his career, and heard songs from his latest CD, In My Bones! He also brought a guitar and played a song live for us, and one lucky listener scored a pair of tickets to see Jason open for Judith Hill at State College’s State Theatre this Friday night, November 1! Along the way, introduced new tunes by Royal Benson, Jukehouse Bombers, Patched Together AllStars and Nate Myers! We also dug a 1995 song by Click from the archive for a “Local Music Flashback,” and reviewed Pseudo-Ano’s Human Spirit II CD in “The Professor’s CD Corner.”

In Local Music News…

Altoona-based metalheads NailDriver have introduced their new EP online. The five-song recording, The White Devil Chronicles, Vol. I, is available for digital streaming on the group’s Reverbnation page, and the radio edit version of the song “Enemy” is available for free digital download.

Area musicians involved with next month’s upcoming Patched Together benefit concert have recorded a special new song for this year’s benefit. The song is called, appropriately enough, “Patched Together,” and it is performed by an all-star cast of area musicians called the Patched Together AllStars. We will kick off the show’s second hour with the new song, and we will preview this year’s Patched Together concert on the November 10 edition of the “Homegrown Rocker.”

The date for the second annual Mishler Bands Together for Charity event has been announced. The night of live local music at the historic theater, with proceeds benefiting the theater and Family Services Incorporated of Blair County, will take place on Saturday evening, January 11. Bands confirmed thus far for the event include Tyne & the Fastlyne, 7th Gear, Flight 19 and the Backyard Rockers. More performers will be announced shortly.
