HGR Recap 1/12: We Welcome Tony Mollick and Friends!

Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the January 12 edition of Rocky 104.9 and Rocky 99's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on WRKY-FM (www.rocky1049.com) and WRKW-FM (www.rocky99.com).

Thanks to our first guest of 2014, Pittsburgh area rock mainstay Tony Mollick, and his Jive Turkeys bandmates Rob and Shawn for a fun and grooving two hours! Tony updated us on his various band and studio projects, including a new Synesthesia recording, a Groove Junkies boxed set, a remastered Tony Mollick Project CD, and his new roots blues project with Rob and Shawn, the Jive Turkeys! We heard songs from all of these projects and more, and recalled Tony’s past with 1996 tracks from the Groove Junkies and a 1990 track from One Night Stand for multiple “Local Music Flashbacks!” Along the way, we updated “Local Music News,” stepped “Across State Lines” to hear a song from Morgantown, West Virginia rockers Writing Off Tomorrow, debuted a new song from One Adam 12, and reviewed Larry Nath’s Visions and Revisions CD in “The Professor’s CD Corner!”

In Local Music News…

A member of the Pittsburgh area country rockers East Coast Turnaround became tired of drugs and street violence in his hometown, Jeannette, and decided to do something about it. The group’s lead singer and guitarist, Chad Fetty, moved to action after an early November drive-by shooting incident in Jeannette. He organized a rally called “We Are One…A Rally for Peace,” which took place last Sunday afternoon, Jan. 4, on the steps of Jeannette’s city hall. The event featured guest speakers, before a community march down Clay Avenue, which ended with an acoustic performance by East Coast Turnaround and other musicians at Jeannette’s Keynote Café.

Longtime central PA musician Pat McGinnis is putting the finishing touches on his soon-to-be-released first album. The album will feature original songs with folk, blues, country and Americana flavors. Pat is helped out on the album by a variety of guests, including members of the Hurricanes, Pure Cane Sugar, Jason McIntyre, Mark Ross, Dawn Kinnard and more. The album should drop in late March or April.

Rewind, the band that formed late last year from the remnants of Screamin’ Ugly, has announced that they are going their separate ways.

The area music scene mourns the passing of David Gracey, who died on January 4 at age 64. Dave was a drummer, and played for several area bands in the 1960s and 70s.
