Here is the recap of the September 1 edition of Rocky 104.9 and Rocky 99's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 9 to 11 PM on WRKY-FM (www.rocky1049.com) and WRKW-FM (www.rocky99.com).
This week, for the Labor Day holiday weekend, we resurrected one of our most popular specials, the “Cover Song Special!” We spotlighted area bands and artists as they covered song material from other people and bands, often giving their cover material a distinctive makeover! Among the new entries on this edition of the “Cover Song Special,” cigar box guitar specialist Shane Speal’s delta-bluesy lean on Rush’s “Working Man,” Biscuit Jam’s Americana-flavored version of Led Zeppelin’s “Rock and Roll,” Kiss tribute enthusiasts StarChild updating Tommy James/Joan Jett’s “Crimson and Clover” and more! Along the way, we updated “Local Music News,” and dug a 2001 Rolling Stones cover from Altoona-based Stones tribute act Jumpin’ Jack Flash for this week’s “Local Music Flashback!”

So throughout football season, the show will air from 9 to 11 p.m. (until the Steelers’ season has concluded). So the “Homegrown Rocker” will air one hour later starting September 8.

In Local Music News…
Altoona-based metal rockers NailDriver have launched a campaign on crowdfunding website IndieGoGo.com to fund their video for the original song, "Phoenix" from their upcoming debut CD. NailDriver has been selected by New York City-based filmmaker and producer Chris Cayden to provide original music for his upcoming drama series, Blood Of Kings, and the accompanying original soundtrack, The Walk. Blood Of Kings is a dark drama about power and corruption surrounding an independent Mixed Martial Arts fight promotion in New York City. This video will be included as a vital part of the final production package as the series is presented to various major cable companies, television, networks and multi-media outlets.
A special event celebrating female artistry will happen in the Altoona area later this month. The inaugural “Halos and Harlots, A Celebration of Female Music & Art,” will take place Sept. 27-28 at Aldo’s, spotlighting female-fronted music and creations. The two nights will feature different flavors of music. Mycenea Worley, Jen Bertiaux, Pure Cane Sugar and Gypsy Caravan are among the performers during the Sept. 27 “Heaven” showcase with a focus on acoustic music and alternative; while Lies, Inc., Cassandra Syndrome, Shadowburn, Fist Fight in the Parking Lot and Sixteen Cylinder will perform during the Sept. 28 “Hell” showcase, with an emphasis on hard rock and metal-flavored music.
