HGR Recap 9/29 - We Welcome Band Guests It Is Written!

Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the September 29 edition of Rocky 104.9 and Rocky 99's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 9 to 11 PM on WRKY-FM (www.rocky1049.com) and WRKW-FM (www.rocky99.com).

Thanks to this week’s guests, Centre County metal rockers It Is Written (http://www.reverbnation.com/itiswrittenstatecollege), for a hard-hitting, interesting and insightful two hours! We met the band members and learned their story, and spotlighted songs from It Is Written’s new self-titled CD! Along the way, we debuted new songs by Small Town Titans and 44Mag, updated “Local Music News,” dug a 1990 number by Bashful from the archive for this week’s “Local Music Flashback,” reviewed Candlelight Red’s Reclamation CD in “The Professor’s CD Corner,” and stepped “Across State Lines” to hear music from Frederick, MD-based symphonic/operatic heavy rockers Cassandra Syndrome!

In Local Music News…

In band personnel news, area heavy rockers Giornesto have announced a new bass player in their roster, as Adam Weaver takes over bottom end duties.

Singer Scott Walk and Altoona-based hard rockers Screamin’ Ugly have parted ways. The group will continue on as a four-piece.

Guitarist Tom Brown has parted ways with local ‘80s rockers Sunset Strip.

A benefit concert to raise toys and money for the U.S. Marine Corps’ Toys for Tots campaign has been announced for early November. The Toys for Tots benefit will happen on Saturday evening, November 2 at the Cresson American Legion, and will feature performances from Punk Fiction Project, the Backyard Rockers, Strings Radio, Root and the Fifths, Josh Gallagher, The Lux Republic and Locked and Loaded. Advance tickets will be sold, and more details about the benefit will be available soon.

And the area music scene was rocked with the passings of two friends in recent weeks. David Dowden, better known as “Jinx” on the area music scene, died unexpectedly recently at age 41. Jinx was an original road crew member for the band Hair Force One, and designed the banners that the group used at their shows. He was a tattoo artist as well.

And if you frequented live music events, concerts, benefits and festivals on west-central PA stages in the past 2-3 years, you likely encountered Bryan Haluska, or actually, his alter ego. Decked in a green superhero outfit, cape and ballcap, Bryan endeared himself to the area music scene and community as local “superhero” Cambria GreenMan, and he frequently showed up at concerts, festivals, benefits and charity events. Sadly, Bryan unexpectedly died in his sleep last Monday at age 30. A benefit for Bryan’s family was held this past Friday night at the Patton VFW, and plans are being discussed for a band benefit show in Cambria GreenMan’s honor as well.
