HGR Recap 9/8/13: Matt Otis in the Studio!

Here is the recap of the September 8 edition of Rocky 104.9 and Rocky 99's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 9 to 11 PM on WRKY-FM (
www.rocky1049.com) and WRKW-FM (www.rocky99.com). 

This week, as we moved to our new football season airtime of 9 to 11 p.m., we welcomed back to the program our guest, Bedford-based singer and songwriter Matt Otis (
www.mattotismusic.com). Matt updated us on his latest music career and world travel happenings, and we heard songs from his latest CD, Life, Love, Death. Matt also brought a guitar and did several songs live for us as well! Along the way, we debuted new songs by The Crew of the Half Moon, Nina Scarcia, Pseudo-Ano and Ted McCloskey, updated “Local Music News,” dug a 2000 number by the Rhythm Kings from the archive for this week’s “Local Music Flashback,” and we reviewed The Standing Cinema’s Modern Escape EP in “The Professor’s CD Corner!”

In Local Music News…

Ganister has introduced a new guitar player, who is joining the group while guitarist/singer Rob Sottile steps away for career and family reasons. Matt Markham made his official debut with Ganister during a show last night at Magoo’s in Cresson.

A southern Blair County native now based in Nashville is set to issue her first ever solo album. Angela Dodson will release the album,Lonesome Time, this Thursday, September 12, with a CD release event in Nashville. Angela previously sang locally with the Huntingdon-based country group The Country Outlaws, and during her teen years was a multiple-time winner at Dennie Huber’s annual Crazy Fest Amateur Youth Talent Show. She relocated to Nashville in 2009.


And again, next Sunday, September 15, is the annual Wang Dang Doodle Music Festival and Car Cruise, happening near Roxbury Park in Johnstown. The music will start at noon, and feature performances from headliners Cabinet, along with Pittsburgh’s Old E Allstars, Dave Distefano & Friends, the Justin Garman Trio, The Crew of the Half Moon, Todd Homan and Glenn Henry. There will also be a car cruise beginning at 3 p.m., a live animal show from Wild World of Animals, children’s activities and more. Admission to the event is free.
