News from two area groups called The House Band…The western Pennsylvania-based group The House Band has announced some personnel moves, as Josh Erhardt takes over lead guitar and backing vocals, and Dan Siegel handles lead vocals and rhythm guitar. They join band members Eric Hartman on bass and Paul Baker on drums.

Meanwhile, as the Altoona-based group The House Band takes a leave from live stage action, guitarist Tom Rhodes introduced a new band project last night at Shaw’s in Juniata. The group is called Stella’s Revenge, and features Tom on guitar, occasional banjo and mandolin, as well as Eric Wertz on drums. The group performs classic rock and blues.

And jazz will be celebrated at Penn State University’s HUB Building Heritage Hall this Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday nights during the free “Music Is Life” festival. Organized by famed jazz percussionist, musician and composer Ronnie Burrage (who has performed with Sonny Rollins, Pat Metheny, Jaco Pastorius and others), and hosted by the Penn State Jazz Club, Guitar Club and Open Mic Club, the festival will feature musical and other performances all three nights starting at 7 p.m. Tuesday’s entertainment includes the band Cone Of Silence and Band Burrage; Wednesday will feature fingerstyle guitarist Trevor Gordon Hall, and Thursday will feature the Okyerema Asante Band with Aeb Byrne, and the Rene McLean Band with Gary Bartz. Various poets, rappers and dancers will entertain between bands each evening. Admission all three nights is free.
