State College favorites The Nightcrawlers are continuing on with a new drummer. Longtime drummer Steve Arnold retired from the group after last weekend, and the group has now introduced Jordan Thompson as their new drummer. Thompson’s resume includes drumming stints for several prominent State College-based groups, including The Earthtones, Cootie Brown and Royal Benson. His first show with The Nightcrawlers happened this past Wednesday night at the Phyrst in State College.

Guitarist/bassist Troy Bugash is parting ways with Blair/Bedford County modern rockers The Sitch, and the group has hired on a new rhythm guitarist to fill his shoes. That new guitarist, Brian, will make his official debut with The Sitch on July 6 at the Bedford Moose.

A State College recording studio will be closing its doors to relocate to Nashville. Frigo Recording will close its operations at the end of this month, and will open up in Nashville sometime next month.

A member of Altoona area folk/bluegrass group Mama Corn achieved a special honor during this past weekend’s Smoked Country Jam Bluegrass Festival near Renovo. A song co-written by Mama Corn mandolinist Chuck Cox and former Hillbilly Gypsies bassist Jason Teel won second place in this year’s Pennsylvania Heritage Songwriting Contest. Chuck got to perform the song, “Red Arrow Train,” onstage during the Smoked Country Jam.
