State College is a hot spot for outdoor live music action this time of year. Just yesterday the annual Summer’s Best Music Fest took place, and more live music-related outdoor events happen during the next few weeks. State College marks the July 4th holiday with the annual Central PA 4th Fest on Friday, which features a variety of musical acts performing around the Beaver Stadium area, plus a giant fireworks display. Musical acts slated to perform on three stages during this year’s event include Biscuit Jam, Mysterytrain, the Backyard Rockers, Scent Of Water, Sons of Resonance, Seven2Ten, OverheaD, Force Of Habit, Tommy Wareham, Jackie Brown & the Gill Street Band and others, plus a post-fireworks street party with Chris Vipond & the Stanley Street Band to close out the event. Admission is free to 4th Fest, but there are fees for parking. For more information, check out the event website www.4thfest.org.

And the Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts happens the following week from July 10 through 13 in downtown State College. Live music will happen on several different stage locations throughout downtown State College. Some of this year’s performers include Miss Melanie & the Valley Rats, Smash the Windows, Natascha & the Spy Boys, Cardinal Harbor, The Nightcrawlers, Shake Shake Shake, Mark DeRose, Pure Cane Sugar, Chris Bell Band, Ted McCloskey & the Hi Fi’s, Velveeta, Feats of Strength, Summit Hill Bluegrass, The Earthtones and more.
