NURSES PICKET IN PITTSBURGH

DESPITE YESTERDAY’S NASTY WEATHER, MORE THAN 100 REGISTERED NURSES FROM UPMC ALTOONA RODE BUSES TO PITTSBURGH TO PROTEST OUTSIDE UPMC’S CORPORATE HEADQUARTERS. SINCE THE UNION’S ONE-DAY STRIKE ON TUESDAY, THE HOSPITAL HAS CALLED BACK 59 NURSES TO WORK. THE HOSPITAL TELLS WYAJ ABOUT 15 MORE ARE BEING CALLED BACK TODAY AND ALL ARE EXPECTED TO BE BACK ON THE JOB BY MONDAY. NEGOTIATIONS ARE SCHEDULED TO RESUME TUESDAY.

ACCUSED KIDNAPPER EXTRADITED

JOHNSTOWN KIDNAPPING SUSPECT TENIA HANCOCK IS NOW IN THE CAMBRIA COUNTY PRISON AFTER BEING EXTRADITED FROM WASHINGTON DC. THE 32 YEAR OLD HANCOCK IS ACCUSED OF MOVING TO THE CAPITAL WITH HER 3 YEAR OLD GOD-DAUGHTER, KAYADA MARTIN, RIGHT AROUND CHRISTMAS TIME. BAIL IS SET AT 100-THOUSAND DOLLARS. KAYADA IS BACK HOME WITH HER FAMILY.

CHILD RAPE CASE

41 YEAR OLD HANDFORD DIVELY OF EAST FREEDOM AND HIS LIVE-IN GIRLFRIEND, 38 YEAR OLD MICHELLE ZEIGLER, ARE IN THE BLAIR COUNTY PRISON. HE’S CHARGED WITH RAPING A GIRL REPEATEDLY WHEN SHE WAS 12 AND 13 YEARS OLD. THE ALTOONA MIRROR SAYS ZEIGLER IS ACCUSED OF ORDERING THE GIRL TO GO TO DIVELY’S BEDROOM. THE ALLEGED VICTIM TOLD POLICE THAT DIVELY HAS ALSO ABUSED OTHER GIRLS WHO MAY COME FORWARD. PRELIMINARY HEARINGS ARE SCHEDULED THURSDAY.

TRIAL ORDERED FOLLOWING DOGS DEATHS

THE JOHNSTOWN WOMAN ACCUSED OF ABANDONING 3 DOGS TO DIE IN A HOUSE ON BEATRICE AVENUE WILL STAND TRIAL ON ANIMAL CRUELTY CHARGES. 21 YEAR OLD SAMANTHA MEYERS WAIVED HER PRELIMINARY HEARING THURSDAY. THE ANIMALS WERE FOUND DEAD JANUARY 18TH. MEYERS REMAINS FREE ON UNSECURED BOND AND THE HOUSE HAS BEEN CONDEMNED.
