OBAMACARE UPHELD

PRESIDENT OBAMA IS HAILING THE SUPREME COURT'S HEALTHCARE REFORM RULING AS A WIN FOR AMERICANS, BUT REPUBLICAN PRESIDENTIAL HOPEFUL MITT ROMNEY IS CALLING FOR A FULL REPEAL OF THE LANDMARK HEALTHCARE REFORM LAW WHICH REQUIRES MOST AMERICANS TO PURCHASE HEALTH INSURANCE COVERAGE.  

GOVERNOR TOM CORBETT AND OFFICIALS WITHIN THE ADMINISTRATION SPENT YESTERDAY REVIEWING THE RULING. CORBETT SAYS HE RESPECTS THE LEGAL PROCESS THAT LED TO THE DECISION, BUT HE THINKS IT WILL BE BAD FOR PENNSYLVANIANS AND HE CALLS THE FEDERAL HEALTH CARE MANDATE A TAX ON OUR CITIZENS THAT THEY CANNOT AFFORD.  HE EXPECTS IT TO HIT SMALL BUSINESSES HARDEST, KILLING JOB GROWTH IN THE STATE.

CONGRESSMEN BILL SHUSTER AND MARK CRITZ ARE SPEAKING OUT AGAINST THE INDIVIDUAL MANDATE. SHUSTER, ONE OF THE REPUBLICANS WHO VOTED AGAINST THE LAW SAYS – QUOTE – “DESPITE THE COURT’S RULING, OBAMACARE IS STILL A JOB KILLER FOR THE AMERICAN PEOPLE. MILLIONS OF AMERICAN FAMILIES WILL LOSE THEIR CURRENT HEALTH-CARE COVERAGE AND BE FORCED INTO NEW GOVERNMENT-RUN HEALTH-CARE PROGRAMS.” CRITZ, A DEMOCRAT WHO WASN’T IN OFFICE WHEN THE LAW WAS APPROVED, HAS BEEN VOTING TO REPEAL IT.

CLOSER TO A STATE BUDGET

THE STATE HOUSE YESTERDAY PASSED A 27-POINT-7 BILLION DOLLAR BUDGET BY A VOTE OF 120 TO 81…AND NOW IT GOES TO THE SENATE. THE SPENDING PLAN MAINTAINS FUNDING FOR PUBLIC SCHOOLS AND PUBLIC UNIVERSITIES AT THIS YEAR'S LEVEL. IT ALSO PROVIDES EXTRA AID TO FISCALLY-DISTRESSED SCHOOL DISTRICTS. THE PLAN WILL ELIMINATE A GENERAL CASH ASSISTANCE PROGRAM AND CUTS SPENDING ON SOCIAL SERVICES BY 84 MILLION DOLLARS.

HOUSE EXPLODES IN SOMERSET

A FAMILY OF 3 IS HOMELESS AFTER AN EXPLOSION AND FIRE IN SOMERSET. IT STARTED ABOUT 10PM ALONG THE 300 BLOCK OF WEST CATHERINE STREET.

SUICIDE AT STATE POLICE BARRACKS

A SUICIDE YESTERDAY MORNING OUTSIDE THE DUBOIS STATE POLICE BARRACKS. TROOPERS RUSHED OUTSIDE WHEN THEY HEARD GUNSHOTS. IT TURNS OUT A MAN IN HIS 50’S SHOT HIMSELF ONCE WHILE INSIDE HIS VEHICLE, THEN HE GOT OUT AND SHOT HIMSELF A SECOND TIME. NO TROOPERS WERE INVOLVED IN THE INCIDENT.

POLICE SHOOTING VICTIM NOT TRYING TO RUN DOWN COPS

JOHNSTOWN POLICE SHOT AND KILLED ELIP CHEATHAM EARLY MONDAY, CLAIMING HE ACCELERATED HIS VEHICLE AT THEM AS THEY MADE ARRESTS IN A NEARBY SHOOTING. NOW, HAYWARD GAINES, WHO WAS IN THE CAR AND WAS ALSO INJURED, SAYS HIS COUSIN, CHEATHAM, WAS RUSHING ANOTHER COUSIN TO THE HOSPITAL AND NOT TRYING TO RUN DOWN THE COPS. CARDELL CLINTON WAS SHOT, ALLEGEDLY BY SHY-TYQUON LAWTON OUTSIDE EDDER’S DEN BAR IN THE OAKHURST SECTION OF TOWN. CLINTON REMAINS IN INTENSIVE CARE. STATE POLICE ARE REVIEWING THE CASE TO DETERMINE IF THE SHOOTING WAS JUSTIFIABLE.

TRUCKDRIVER GETS JAIL SENTENCE

NEW YORK TRUCKDRIVER CENK ESENBEL WILL SERVE AT LEAST 15 MONTHS IN A STATE PRISON FOR THE OCTOBER CRASH THAT KILLED BELLEFONTE NATIVE KYLE ROYER ON I-80 IN MARION TOWNSHIP, CENTRE COUNTY. AUTHORITIES SAY ESENBEL WAS DRIVING WITH A SUSPENDED LICENSE AND ON HIS 20TH STRAIGHT HOUR OF TRAVEL WHEN HIS OVERWEIGHT TRACTOR TRAILER REAR-ENDED ROYER’S DUMPTRUCK.

PRISON TIME IN CHILD SEX ABUSE CASE

24-YEAR-OLD JUSTIN HICKOX OF BELLEFONTE PLEADED GUILTY TO SEXUALLY ABUSING AN 8 YEAR OLD BOY WHO HE MET THROUGH THE BIG BROTHERS/ BIG SISTERS PROGRAM…AND YESTERDAY A JUDGE SENTENCED HIM TO 4 TO 16 YEARS IN A STATE PRISON. HICKOX EVENTUALLY MARRIED THE BOY’S MOTHER AND BECAME HIS STEP-FATHER. DISTRICT ATTORNEY STACY PARKS MILLER CALLED HICKOX “THE WORST KIND OF PREDATOR” AND THE JUDGE RULED HIM TO BE A SEXUALLY VIOLENT PREDATOR. HICKOX PLANS TO APPEAL.

JAIL TIME FOR DAD

A CENTRE COUNTY JUDGE YESTERDAY SENTENCED 27 YEAR OLD BRANDON STIMER OF CENTRE HALL TO 5 YEARS IN A STATE PRISON FOR BREAKING 6 BONES  IN HIS 4-WEEK-OLD SON’S ARMS AND LEG IN AUGUST 2009. THE JURY CONVICTED STIMER OF CHILD ENDANGERMENT, SIMPLE ASSAULT AND RECKLESS ENDANGERMENT…BUT NOT AGGRAVATED ASSAULT.
