MISSING MOM & DAUGHTER

STATE POLICE IN HUNTINGDON COUNTY ARE SEARCHING FOR 27 YEAR OLD ALYSSA DEAN OF BLAIRS MILLS AND HER 4 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER, OLIVIA. AUTHORITIES TRIED TO SERVE CUSTODY PAPERS ON DEAN WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON BUT THEY TOOK OFF, AND THERE ARE CONCERNS ABOUT THEIR SAFETY. ANYONE WITH INFORMATION SHOULD CALL TROOPERS.

FIRE DESTROYS VACANT BUILDING

FIRE CREWS FROM CENTRE AND CLEARFIELD COUNTIES BATTLED A BLAZE AT THE FORMER NAVASKY CLOTHINGFACTORY AT THE CORNER OF PINE AND 11TH STREETS IN PHILIPSBURG THURSDAY AFTERNOON. THE BUILDING…OWNED BY DEREK HART…WAS EMPTY AND DIDN’T EVEN HAVE A ROOF. THE FIRE MARSHAL WILL BE BACK ON THE SCENE TODAY.

CRASHES

5 TYRONE TEENAGERS…AGES 15 TO 17…WERE INVOLVED IN A WRECK LAST EVENING ALONG STAHLS LANE EXTENSION IN TAYLOR TOWNSHIP. STATE POLICE SAY THE FEMALE DRIVER WAS SPEEDING WHEN HER CAR STARTED SKIDDING AND HIT AN EMBANKMENT THEN ROLLED OVER. THE DRIVER WAS EJECTED AND TAKEN TO UPMC ALTOONA. THE 4 OTHERS WERE NOT HURT.

2 PEOPLE WERE TAKEN TO UPMC ALTOONA YESTERDAY MORNING AFTER 2 CARS COLLIDED AT THE INTERSECTION OF ROUTE 22 AND ROUTE 305 IN ALEXANDRIA, HUNTINGDON COUNTY. STATE POLICE SAY 18-YEAR-OLD HALEY MYERS WAS MAKING A LEFT TURN ONTO ROUTE 305 WHEN SHE TURNED INTO THE PATH OF A VEHICLE DRIVEN BY 49-YEAR-OLD DEBRA COOLEY. COOLEY AND HER PASSENGER, 66-YEAR-OLD THELMA COOLEY, WERE NOT WEARING SEATBELTS. MYERS…WHO WAS ON HER WAY TO GRADUATION PRACTICE AT JUNIATA VALLEY HIGH SCHOOL, WAS BUCKLED UP AND ESCAPED INJURY.

GUILTY PLEA IN FATAL WRECK

IN CAMBRIA COUNTY COURT THURSDAY, 34 YEAR OLD DALE MALLOY OF VINTONDALE, PLEADED GUILTY TO REDUCED CHARGES OF HOMICIDE BY VEHICLE IN A FATAL D-U-I WRECK. MALLOY’S PICKUP CRASHED ON CHICKAREE HILL ROAD IN JACKSON TOWNSHIP IN DECEMBER 2011, KILLING HIS PASSENGER, KAYLYNN REYNOLDS. HE WILL BE SENTENCED JULY 22ND.

NEW TRIAL FOR KILLER?

THOMAS DRASS OF HOLLIDAYSBURG IS SERVING 20 TO 40 YEARS FOR 3RD DEGREE MURDER IN THE 2005 SHOOTING OF HIS GRANDFATHER, DWAYNE CHAMBERLAIN…AND THE ALTOONA MIRROR REPORTS HE’S ASKING A JUDGE FOR A REDUCTION IN HIS SENTENCE. DRASS CLAIMS HE SUFFERS FROM MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES AND HE WAS DELUSIONAL WHEN THE SHOOTING OCCURRED. HE TOLD A JUDGE YESTERDAY THAT KENNETH LEIGHTY OF ALTOONA WAS ONLY SENTENCED TO 7 TO 14 YEARS FOR THE 1999 BLUDGEONING DEATH OF HIS DAUGHTER-IN-LAW, SHERRY LEIGHTY. HE LED POLICE TO HER BODY JUST LAST YEAR. NO WORD WHEN THE JUDGE WILL RULE ON DRASS’S MOTION.

DRUG ARRESTS

CRESSON POLICE SAY THEY RESPONDED TO 2 HEROIN OVERDOSES WEDNESDAY. ONE VICTIM WAS FOUND UNCONSCIOUS IN THE BATHROOM AT MCDONALD’S…AND A WOMAN OVERDOSED AT AN APARTMENT ON FRONT STREET. SHE TOLD POLICE TROY SHILLING INJECTED HER, THEN HIMSELF. SHILLING AND THE FIRST VICTIM HAVE BOTH BEEN ARRAIGNED ON DRUG CHARGES AND LOCKED UP IN THE CAMBRIA COUNTY PRISON.

25 YEAR OLD RYAN MILLER OF ALTOONA IS JAILED AFTER A PROBATION OFFICER’S VISIT TO HIS 2ND AVENUE HOME THIS WEEK. THE OFFICER FOUND HEROIN PACKETS, AMPHETAMINES, POT PLANTS, DRUG PARAPHERNALIA, 7 LONG GUNS, A HANDGUN, AND LOTS OF AMMUNITION. MILLER’S PRELIMINARY HEARING IS SCHEDULED WEDNESDAY.

ACCUSED BANK THIEF INDICTED

A FEDERAL GRAND JURY IN JOHNSTOWN HAS INDICTED 34 YEAR OLD LEIGH ANN RUMMEL OF TWIN ROCKS ON A CHARGE OF MISAPPLICATION OF FUNDS BY A BANK EMPLOYEE. SHE WAS WORKING AS A TELLER C & G SAVINGS BANK IN ALTOONA IN 2013 WHEN SHE ALLEGEDLY TOOK 75-HUNDRED DOLLARS. IF FOUND GUILTY, RUMMEL FACES UP TO 30 YEARS IN PRISON AND A 1 MILLION DOLLAR FINE.

NCAA TRIAL SCHEDULED

STATE SENATOR JAKE CORMAN’S LAWSUIT AGAINST THE NCAA COULD GO TO TRIAL IN JANUARY. HE’S SEEKING TO KEEP MILLIONS OF DOLLARS IN SANCTIONS IMPOSED AGAINST PENN STATE FROM LEAVING PENNSYLVANIA COMMONWEALTH COURT JUDGE ANNE COVEY SAYS DISCOVERY MUST BE COMPLETE BY SEPTEMBER 8TH, AND THE TRIAL IS SET TO BEGIN JANUARY 6TH IF THE CASE ISN’T RESOLVED BY THEN.

SCHOOLS IN TROUBLE?

THE REPORT, RELEASED YESTERDAY, PRESENTS RESPONSES FROM 279 OF THE STATE'S 500 SCHOOL DISTRICTS. 1 IN SEVEN 7 PLANS TO FURLOUGH TEACHERS NEXT YEAR AND MANY MORE PLAN TO REDUCE OR ELIMINATE ACADEMIC PROGRAMS AND EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES. THE SURVEY ALSO FOUND THAT 3-QUARTERS OF SCHOOL DISTRICTS WILL HAVE TO RAISE PROPERTY TAXES NEXT YEAR.
