HUGE DRUG SWEEP IN ALTOONA

A MULTI-MILLION DOLLAR COCAINE RING IS BUSTED IN ALTOONA AND 14 SUSPECTED DRUG DEALERS ARE OFF THE STREETS. STATE ATTORNEY GENERAL LINDA KELLY SAYS THIS WAS ONE OF THE LARGEST DRUG DISTRIBUTION NETWORKS EVER IDENTIFIED IN BLAIR COUNTY, RESPONSIBLE FOR AN ESTIMATED 2 MILLION DOLLARS WORTH OF DRUGS SOLD OVER THE PAST YEAR.THE ACCUSED RINGLEADER IS 33 YEAR OLD DAMION FLOYD WHO HAS ALLEGEDLY BEEN RUNNING THE SHOW FROM A STATE PRISON SINCE 2010. AUTHORITIES SAY MANY OF THE CHARGES FILED THURSDAY GO BACK TO A RAID IN NOVEMBER AT THE CORNER BAR AND GRILLE ON 8TH AVENUE.

CAMBRIA COUNTY DRUG ARRESTS

AFTER GETTING HELP FROM LANDLORDS OVER THE PAST 6 MONTHS, THE CAMBRIA COUNTY DRUG TASK FORCE AND STATE DRUG AGENTS HAVE JAILED 30 YEAR OLD JONATHAN DELACRUZ…26 YEAR OLD KEVIN COGGINS…AND 24 YEAR OLD SAMANTHA ZACK. DELACRUZ AND COGGINS ARE FROM NEW YORK CITY AND ARE CHARGED WITH SELLING LARGE AMOUNT OF MARIJUANA AND CRACK COCAINE. POLICE RAIDED THEIR RENTED HOMES ON BUCKNELL AVENUE AND STATE STREET IN WESTMONT YESTERDAY. THEY SEIZED 35-THOUSAND DOLLARS WORTH OF COCAINE…5-THOUSAND DOLLARS WORTH OF POT…AND 2 HANDGUNS, ONE OF THEM STOLEN. POLICE SAY ZACK HELPED SELL THE DRUGS.

DAD INJURED IN FIRE

 A FATHER SUFFERED SMOKE INHALATION AND MINOR BURNS YESTERDAY WHEN HE TRIED TO PUT OUT A FIRE THAT STARTED IN HIS YOUNG DAUGHTER’S BEDROOM AT AN APARTMENT BUILDING AT 205 SPRUCE STREET IN PHILIPSBURG. THE BUILDING IS OWNED BY THE MAN’S FATHER-IN-LAW, PAUL BOYD, AND 7 PEOPLE WERE LEFT HOMELESS. THE BLAZE HAS BEEN RULED ACCIDENTAL.

TEEN PLEADS GUILTY IN FATAL CRASH

18 YEAR OLD DANIEL TUROUS OF VINTONDALE IS FACING AT LEAST 3…AND AS MANY AS 24 YEARS…IN PRISON AFTER REACHING A PLEA AGREEMENT IN A HOMICIDE BY VEHICLE CASE. AUTHORITIES SAY TUROUS WAS DRUNK AND FLEEING FROM POLICE WHEN HIS CAR CRASHED IN HOLLIDAYSBURG IN SEPTEMBER 2010, KILLING ONE OF HIS 16 YEAR OLD PASSENGERS, KELSEY MILLER OF NANTY GLO. TUROUS ALSO PLEADED GUILTY TO DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE, AGGRAVATED ASSAULT WHILE DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE, RECKLESS ENDANGERMENT, AND FLEEING AND ELUDING POLICE OFFICERS. TUROUS REMAINS FREE UNTIL SENTENCING, WHICH WON’T BE FOR A FEW MONTHS.

HORNER DUE IN COURT TODAY

IRAQ WAR VETERAN NICHOLAS HORNER OF ALTOONA IS DUE TO APPEAR AT A HEARING TODAY AND BLAIR COUNTY JUDGE JOLENE KOPRIVA WILL DECIDE IF HORNER CAN REPRESENT HIMSELF DURING THE DEATH PENALTY PHASE OF HIS TRIAL IF HE IS CONVICTED. HORNER IS SCHEDULED TO STAND TRIAL NEXT MONTH FOR THE 2009 MURDERS OF 2 PEOPLE. ALTOONA LAWYER TOM DICKEY WILL HANDLE HORNER’S DEFENSE DURING THE ACTUAL TRIAL.
