SANDUSKY SCANDAL

THE JUDGE IN THE JERRY SANDUSKY CASE YESTERDAY ORDERED CENTRE COUNTY COURT TO RELEASE NEW  INFORMATION TO DEFENSE ATTORNEY JOE AMENDOLA, INCLUDING POLICE REPORTS AND PSYCHOLOGICAL DETAILS RELATING TO ALLEGED VICTIM 4 IN THE STATE’S GRAND JURY REPORT. HE CLAIMS SANDUSKY ABUSED HIM AT UNIVERSITY PARK AND AT A STATE COLLEGE HOTEL IN THE LATE 1990S. THE ORDER CAME ON THE SAME DAY THAT AMENDOLA FILED A BRIEF IN SUPPORT OF HIS REQUEST FOR A TRIAL DELAY. SOME LOCAL SCHOOL DISTRICTS AND THE SECOND MILE ARE ALSO COMPLYING WITH SUBPOENAS TO HAND OVER INFORMATION.

WJAC IS REPORTING THAT NEGOTIATIONS ARE UNDERWAY FOR ANOTHER YOUTH-BASED ORGANIZATION TO TAKE OVER MANY OF THE SECOND MILE’S SERVICES AND POSSIBLY ITS ASSETS. FORMAL ARRAIGNMENT IS SCHEDULED TODAY FOR PENN STATE ALTOONA SORORITY SISTERS BROOKE NOLAN OF PHILADELPHIA AND ANGELA KIM OF VIRGINIA. A MAGISTERIAL DISTRICT JUDGE DROPPED FELONY AGGRAVATED ASSAULT CHARGES AGAINST THE WOMEN, BUT THEY ARE STILL CHARGED WITH ASSAULT FOR ALLEGEDLY BEATING A VISITING WOMAN UNCONSCIOUS DURING A NITTANY POINTE APARTMENTS PARTY IN MARCH. PENN STATE ALTOONA HAS SUSPENDED THE GAMMA PHI BETA SORORITY.

INMATE FACES MORE CHARGES

46 YEAR OLD STEPHEN GONIEA OF STONEYCREEK TOWNSHIP WAS PREVIOUSLY INDICTED BY A FEDERAL GRAND JURY FOR MAKING AND DISTRIBUTING HUNDREDS OF PORNOGRAPHIC VIDEOS OF CHILDREN… AND NOW HE’S CHARGED WITH 54 COUNTS OF CHILD RAPE INVOLVING A YOUNG GIRL. POLICE SAY THE ABUSE TOOK PLACE OVER A 6-YEAR PERIOD. GONIEA WAS ARRAIGNED YESTERDAY FROM THE CAMBRIA COUNTY PRISON. AUTHORITIES SAY THERE MAY BE MORE YOUNG VICTIMS.

FIRE RULED ACCIDENTAL

THE ALTOONA FIRE MARSHAL SAYS THE BLAZE THAT DESTROYED THE HOMES OF 6 PEOPLE AND DAMAGED THE T & R USED FURNITURE BUSINESS TUESDAY WAS ACCIDENTAL. IT STARTED WHEN CLOTHING FELL ON A FAN IN ONE OF THE SECOND FLOOR APARTMENTS. EVERYONE ESCAPED SAFELY FROM THE BUILDING ON THE 19-HUNDRED BLOCK OF 8TH AVENUE, BUT SEVERAL SMALL PETS DIED. WHAT IS LEFT OF THE BUILDING WILL HAVE TO BE DEMOLISHED, BUT THE OWNER HOPES TO RE-BUILD.

25 LBS OF POT IN THE TRUNK

A ROUTINE TRAFFIC STOP TURNED INTO MUCH MORE YESTERDAY ALONG I-80 IN CENTRE COUNTY. 39 YEAR OLD CHARLTON FERGUSON OF CONNECTICUT WAS PULLED OVER FOR SPEEDING AND A POLICE DOG ALERTED TROOPERS TO THE PRESENCE OF DRUGS. TROOPERS SEARCHED FERGUSON’S TRUNK AND FOUND 25 POUNDS OF MARIJUANA. HE’S IN THE CENTRE COUNTY PRISON ON 150-THOUSAND DOLLARS BAIL.

POSTAL FACILITY WILL CLOSE

IT’S JUST ABOUT THE END OF THE LINE FOR THE MAIL DISTRIBUTION FACILITY IN DUNCANSVILLE. THE U.S. POSTAL SERVICE ANNOUNCED THURSDAY IT WILL CLOSE THE CENTER ALONG WITH 47 OTHERS ACROSS THE COUNTRY. DOZENS OF JOBS COULD BE LOST AS OPERATIONS ARE TRANSFERRED TO THE JOHNSTOWN DISTRIBUTION CENTER AND IT MAY SOON TAKE LONGER FOR REGIONAL MAIL TO REACH ITS FINAL DESTINATION. THE POSTAL SERVICE HAS FORECAST A RECORD 14-POINT-1 BILLION DOLLAR LOSS BY THE END OF THIS YEAR.

CHALLENGER FOR SHUSTER

AN INDEPENDENT CANDIDATE FROM MERCERSBURG WILL OPPOSE 9TH DISTRICT REPUBLICAN CONGRESSMAN BILL SHUSTER IN THE NOVEMBER GENERAL ELECTION. A SPOKESPERSON SAYS KAREN RAMSBURG’S WRITE-IN CAMPAIGN IN THE SPRING PRIMARY GENERATED ENOUGH VOTES TO ALLOW HER NAME TO APPEAR AS A DEMOCRAT ON THE GENERAL ELECTION BALLOT.

CORBETT IN BOALSBURG

GOVERNOR TOM CORBETT WILL BE THE GUEST SPEAKER THIS SUNDAY AT THE ANNUAL STATE NATIONAL GUARD MEMORIAL SERVICE AT THE PENNSYLVANIA MILITARY MUSEUM IN BOALSBURG. CORBETT IS A FORMER MEMBER OF THE 28TH INFANTRY DIVISION AND HE WILL HONOR THE GROUP ALONG WITH MAJOR GENERAL RANDALL MARCHI WHO IS THE CURRENT COMMANDER. THE CEREMONY WILL INCLUDE THE DEDICATION OF A MEMORIAL MONUMENT TO THE 83 TROOPS WHO WERE KILLED AS PART OF THE DIVISION’S 2ND INFANTRY BRIGADE IN IRAQ IN 2005 AND 2006. THE 28TH DIVISION, FOUNDED IN 1879, IS THE OLDEST DIVISION IN THE U.S. ARMED FORCES.
