MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND

POLICE IN PENNSYLVANIA ARE GEARING UP FOR THE BUSY MEMORIAL DAY HOLIDAY WEEKEND AND ARE REMINDING MOTORISTS TO BE CAREFUL ON THE ROADS. THIS WEEK, OFFICERS FROM PENNSYLVANIA, WEST VIRGINIA AND OHIO KICKED OFF A MULTISTATE SUMMER DRIVING ENFORCEMENT EFFORT CALLED THE COMBINED ACCIDENT REDUCTION PROJECT. TROOPERS WILL BE CONDUCTING CHECKPOINTS AND ROVING PATROLS THIS WEEKEND LOOKING FOR INTOXICATED OR AGGRESSIVE DRIVERS. OFFICIALS SAY TRAVEL THIS WEEKEND IS EXPECTED TO BE THE HEAVIEST TRAVEL TIME SINCE 2000.

BUTLER STATE REPRESENTATIVE DARYL METCALFE SAYS PENNSYLVANIA VOTERS AND NOT A JUDGE SHOULD DEFINE MARRIAGE. LEASING ALTOONA WATER AUTHORITY

ALTOONA IS UNDER DISTRESSED STATUS…AND ALTOONA CITY COUNCIL IS HOPING TO LEASE THE WATER AND SEWER SYSTEM TO A PRIVATE ENTITY AS A WAY TO MAKE UP TO 240-MILLION DOLLARS. ACCORDING TO THE ALTOONA MIRROR, THE AUTHORITY IS HOPING TO RETAIN CONTROL LEGALLY…AND YESTERDAY THE BOARD DISCUSSED RAISING MONEY FOR AN UPFRONT PAYMENT AND A COMMITMENT TO PRODIVING ONGOING REVENUE TO THE CITY. PUBLIC HEARINGS ARE EXPECTED TO BE SCHEDULED.

NEW INFO ON ATTEMPTED HOLD UP

ON WEDNESDAY, A MAN WITH A GUN TRIED TO ROB THE CVS PHARMACY ON PLANK ROAD IN ALTOONA, BUT A MALE WORKER REFUSED TO COOPERATE, SO THE SUSPECT FLED. IT WAS ORIGINALLY BELIEVED HE RAN INTO THE GARDEN HEIGHTS NEIGHBORHOOD, BUT POLICE NOW SAY SURVEILLANCE VIDEO PROVES THAT HE GOT INTO A BLACK 4 DOOR SEDAN AND FLED SOUTH ON PLANK ROAD. HE IS A WHITE MALE, ABOUT 5-FOOT-11 WITH A THIN BUILD AND A BLACK BEARD. HE WAS WEARING A BLACK HAT, GREY SHORTS, WHITE PENN STATE HOODED SWEATSHIRT, AND BLACK TENNIS SHOES.

MORE CHARGES AGAINST FORMER ATHLETIC DIRECTOR

IN CENTRE COUNTY COURT YESTERDAY, FORMER PENNS VALLEY SCHOOL DISTRICT ATHLETIC DIRECTOR DONALD HOSTERMAN WAS ARRAIGNED ON FELONY THEFT CHARGES. STATE POLICE SAY HE STOLE OVER 22-THOUSAND DOLLARS BY WRITING CHECKS TO HIMSELF OUT OF THE MOUNTAIN LEAGUE ACCOUNT WHILE SERVING AS TREASURER BETWEEN FEBRUARY 2010 AND AUGUST OF LAST YEAR. HOSTERMAN WAS PREVIOUSLY CHARGED WITH 2 MISDEMEANOR THEFT CHARGES AFTER HE ADMITTED TO STEALING ABOUT 390-DOLLARS FROM PENNS VALLEY SPORTING EVENTS IN JANUARY. HE'S FREE ON UNSECURED BOND.

STATE COLLEGE COMEDIAN “LAST COMIC STANDING”?
