tragedy in windber, SOMERSET COUNTY

 

Just before 7 Saturday, Police say 23 year old caressa kovalcik was shot IN THE HEAD by 25 year old denver blough at their apartment on 19th Street. Kovalcik was taken to johnstown’s memorial medical center where she died shortly after an emergency c-section. The baby…WHICH WAS JUST 2 WEEKS FROM TERM… was flown to Children’s Hospital in Pittsburgh.

the couple also had an 11-month-old son. Blough is jailed without bond and his preliminary hearing is scheduled for June 11th.

 

SEARCH ENDS WHEN BODY IS FOUND

 

State Police in Hollidaysburg say the BODY OF  23 year old Brandon Newton WAS FOUND Saturday evening NEAR HOLLIDAYSBURG. A SPECIAL EMERGENCY RESPONE TEAM WAS CALLED OUT THURSDAY WHEN FAMILY MEMBERS REPORTED NEWTON MAY HAVE A GUN AND MAY BE PLANNING TO HARM HIMSELF. Police LOCKED DOWN FRANKSTOWN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL WHILE THE search WAS UNDERWAY IN A WOODED AREA NEAR HOLLIDAYSBURG SPORTSMENS CLUB.

 

FALL VICTIM IDENTIFIED

STATE COLLEGE Police have identified the man who plunged to his death Thursday afternoon from a 7th-floor balcony on South Allen Street. THE INVESTIGATION CONTINUES INTO THE DEATH OF Beau Rodgers Griffis AND POLICE ARE STILL working to determine whether he fell or intentionally jumped. Investigators do not suspect foul play.

7 DIE IN PLANE CRASH

 

A plane crash in Massachusetts Saturday killed 7 people including a graduate OF Penn State’s Dickinson School of Law. BACK IN 2007 Lewis Katz donated 15 million dollars to the law school, which IS one of the biggest single donations ever received. Katz recently purchased the Philadelphia Inquirer and had a stake in a number of professional sports teams. The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the crash.

 

ARREST IN CEMETERY VANDALISM

 

AN ARREST HAS BEEN MADE IN CONNECTION WITH THE vandalism at Pine Hall Cemetery IN FERGUSON TOWNSHIP LAST this week. 24 YEAR OLD Timothy Penrod of State College is charged with toppling 15 headstones and tRYing to enter the maintenance shed THROUGH A WINdow. He is also charged with burning of American flags which had been placed on the graves of veterans for Memorial Day. Penrod IS IN the Centre County PRISON ON 50-THOUSAND DOLLARS CASH bail. HIS preliminary hearing is scheduled Wednesday.

MORE BAD BUDGET NEWS FOR PENNSYLVANIA.

STATE SENATOR JAKE CORMAN AND REPRESENTATIVE WILLIAM ADOLPH, THE REPUBLICAN CHAIRMEN OF THE SENATE AND HOUSE APPROPRIATIONS COMMITTEES, REPORT THAT THE STATE’S MAY REVENUE NUMBERS WILL BE AS MUCH AS 100 MILLION DOLLARS BELOW EXPECTATIONS. REVENUE FROM APRIL…WHICH IS ALWAYS A BIG MONTH…WERE SHORT BY 328-POINT-3 MILLION DOLLARS. THE INDEPENDENT FISCAL OFFICE ESTIMATED EARLIER HIS YEAR THAT 2013-14 REVENUE COULD END UP 608 MILLION DOLLARS BELOW ESTIMATES.

The DAUPHIN COUNTY judge overseeing the criminal case against FORMER PENN STATE OFFICIALS Graham Spanier, Tim Curley, and Gary Schultz IS PLANNING TO GET THE CASE BACK ON TRACK FOR LATER THIS SUMMER. THEY ARE ACCUSED OF COVERING UP Jerry Sandusky’S ABUSE OF YOUNG BOYS. THERE ARE QUESTIONS ABOUT WHAT OCCURRED WHEN THE MEN APPEARED BEFORE THE GRAND JURY. THEY CLAIM THEY THOUGHT THEN-PENN STATE GENERAL COUNSEL CYNTHIA BALDWIN WAS REPRESENTING THEM.
