TEACHER CHARGED WITH RAPE

WTAJ REPORTS THAT A MAN WHO IS LISTED AS A MUSIC TEACHER AT HARMONY SCHOOL DISTRICT IN CLEARFIELD COUNTY IS FREE ON BAIL, CHARGED WITH 2 FELONY RAPE COUNTS AND RELATED OFFENSES INVOLVING A PERSON UNDER THE AGE OF 16. 27-YEAR-OLD SHANE PUTOREK IS ALSO LISTED AS A BASKETBALL COACH. HE WAS ARRESTED BY PATTON BORO POLICE ON FRIDAY.

KIDNAPPING & ASSAULT

STATE COLLEGE POLICE ARE INVESTIGATING A REPORTED SEXUAL ASSAULT. A 21 YEAR OLD WOMAN CLAIMS SHE WAS LURED INTO A PURPLE VAN ON THE 200 BLOCK OF PUGH STREET EARLY SUNDAY MORNING. SHE WAS SEXUALLY ASSAULTED BY ONE OF THE MEN IN THE VAN…THEN DROPPED OFF ON THE 800 BLOCK OF SOUTH ATHERTON STREET. THE WOMAN WAS NOT ABLE TO PROVIDE A DESCRIPTION OF THE MEN. ANYONE WITH INFORMATION IS ASKED TO CALL POLICE AT 234-71-50.

STATUTE OF LIMITATIONS QUESTIONS IN SANDUSKY CASE

THE CENTRE DAILY TIMES REPORTS THAT LEGAL EXPERTS NOW THINK THAT A CHANGE IN THE TIMELINE OF THE JERRY SANDUSKY CASE WILL LIKELY LEAD TO ONE OF 2 CHARGES BEING DISMISSED AGAINST ADMINISTRATORS TIM CURLEY AND GARY SCHULTZ. LAST WEEK, PROSECUTORS SAID MIKE MCQUEARY WALKED IN ON SANDUSKY IN A CAMPUS SHOWER WITH A BOY IN 2001 AND NOT 2002. CURLEY AND SCHULTZ ARE CHARGED WITH PERJURY AND FAILURE TO REPORT SUSPECTED CHILD ABUSE, BUT THE STATUTE OF LIMITATIONS FOR THE FAILURE TO REPORT CHARGE IS 10 YEARS FROM THE EVENT. THE STATE ATTORNEY GENERAL’S OFFICE HAS DECLINED COMMENT ON WHETHER THE DATE CHANGE MEANS THE CHARGE WILL BE DISMISSED.

ARSON SUSPECTED

ALTOONA FIRE CHIEF RENNY SANTONE SAYS THE BLAZE THAT DESTROYED THE ABANDONED RUSSO SALVAGE BUILDING SATURDAY MORNING WAS LIKELY A CASE OF ARSON. CREWS WERE CALLED OUT AROUND 6AM, BUT SANTONE THINKS THE FLAMES COULD HAVE IGNITED HOURS EARLIER. BARRICADES HAVE BEEN SET UP AROUND THE AREA… AND 31ST STREET IS CLOSED FROM 6TH AVENUE TO BEALE AVENUE JUST IN CASE OF A COLLAPSE. CREWS WILL BE BACK ON THE SCENE THIS MORNING TO DECIDE IF ANY DEMOLITION WORK NEEDS DONE.

CHILD ABUSE REPORTS DOWN IN 2011

THE STATE’S ANNUAL CHILD ABUSE REPORT SHOWS THE NUMBER OF CASES WAS DOWN IN 2011. MORE THAN 24-THOUSAND REPORTS OF SUSPECTED CHILD ABUSE WERE MADE STATEWIDE…A DROP OF MORE THAN 200 FROM THE PREVIOUS YEAR. THE NUMBER OF SUBSTANTIATED CASES WAS ALSO DOWN TO 34-HUNDRED. THERE WERE 34 CHILD ABUSE FATALITIES IN 2011, ONE MORE THAN IN 2010.

D-U-I ARRESTS

2 PEOPLE ARE FACING DRUNK DRIVING CHARGES AFTER A CHECKPOINT STRIKEFORCE INITIATIVE IN CLEARFIELD COUNTY THIS WEEKEND. STATE TROOPERS TARGETED ROADS THAT HAVE A HIGH INCIDENCE OF ALCOHOL-RELATED CRASHES. THEY ALSO MADE 4 TRAFFIC ARRESTS AND HANDED OUT 14 WARNINGS FOR TRAFFIC OFFENSES.

1 DRIVER WAS ARRESTED FOR D-U-I DURING A SOBRIETY CHECKPOINT ALONG STATE ROUTE 22 IN PORTER TOWNSHIP, HUNTINGDON COUNTY, FRIDAY NIGHT INTO SATURDAY MORNING. TROOPERS ISSUED 6 TRAFFIC CITATIONS AND 16 WARNINGS.

WIND FARM PROJECT CANCELLED

AN OREGON COMPANY IS CANCELLED PLANS TO BUILD WIND TURBINES IN BEDFORD AND CLEARFIELD COUNTIES. IBERDROLA RENEWABLE SAYS THE DECISION IS BECAUSE OF THE UNCERTAIN ECONOMY. THE PROJECT INVOLVED BUILDING 24 WINDMILLS ON DUNNING AND EVITT’S MOUNTAINS IN BEDFORD COUNTY … AND ANOTHER 40 WINDMILLS BETWEEN GRAMPIAN AND LUTHERSBURG IN CLEARFIELD COUNTY.

RECORD FOOD COLLECTION

THE NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF LETTER CARRIERS SAYS A RECORD AMOUNT OF FOOD WAS GATHERED DURING SATURDAY’S ANNUAL FOOD DRIVE IN THE ALTOONA AREA. LOCAL POSTAL CARRIERS COLLECTED 31 TONS OF FOOD WHICH WAS DISTRIBUTED TO 6 LOCAL FOOD BANKS.

LOCAL TEACHER MAY BE “TEACHER OF THE YEAR”

A CENTRE COUNTY TEACHER HAS BEEN SELECTED AS ONE OF 12 FINALISTS FOR THE STATE’S TEACHER OF THE YEAR AWARD. JACQUI WAGNER IS A BIOLOGY TEACHER AT PENNS VALLEY AREA HIGH SCHOOL AND THIS IS THE 3RD STRAIGHT YEAR AN EDUCATOR FROM PENNS VALLEY IS IN THE RUNNING. LAST YEAR, TRICIA MILLER, A SECONDARY ENGLISH TEACHER AT THE HIGH SCHOOL, WON. THE WINNER WILL BE ANNOUNCED LATER THIS YEAR.
