MORE WET WEATHER

MORE FLOODING DOWNPOURS IN PARTS OF THE AREA WEDNESDAY. NEAR PORT MATILDA LAST NIGHT, HANNAH HILL LANE HAD NEARLY 2 FEET OF WATER ON THE ROAD AFTER A THUNDERSTORM MOVED THROUGH. THERE WERE ALMOST 4 FEET OF STANDING WATER IN THE CULVERTS ON BOTH SIDES OF THE ROAD. THE REGION HAS RECEIVED MORE THAN TWICE THE NORMAL AMOUNT OF RAINFALL SO FAR THIS SUMMER.

Pittsburgh Mayor Luke Ravenstahl is thankful that there were no serious injuries from yesterday's flooding, but is still urging caution because of the threat of more rain. The weather was so bad yesterday that the mayor asked businesses to shut down earlier than usual and urged residents to stay inside. Several towns in Allegheny County have issued emergency declarations, including Findlay, North Fayette, Elizabeth, Oakdale, Scott and Castle Shannon. The National Weather Service also confirmed that a tornado touched down in Lawrence County.  No one was injured, but the twister took out barns and sheds in North Beaver.

TRAIN DERAILS

Norfolk Southern is investigating a train derailment THAT happened around 12:30 Wednesday afternoon in Summerhill Township, Cambria County. No one was hurt when 3 cars tipped over and spilled their loads INTO the woods. the rail lines were SHUT DOWN THROUGH THAT AREA for several hours.

JAIL TIME FOR FATAL WRECK

A SOMERSET COUNTY JUDGE YESTERDAY SENTENCED 29 YEAR OLD RONALD STREETS JUNIOR OF Maryland TO 9 TO 23 MONTHS IN JAIL FOR THE JUNE 2012 CRASH THAT KILLED HIS PASSENGER, 26 YEAR OLD ANTHONY WINTER OF MICHIGAN. THE WRECK HAPPENED IN WELLERSBURG AND BOTH MEN WERE EJECTED. STREETS THEN walked to a neighborhood home to call his father and an ex-girlfriend for a ride before he called 911. HE PLEADED GUILTY TO vehicular homicide, reckless endangerment and failing to immediately notify authorities of an accident.

filmmaker JOHN ZEIGLER YESTERDAY RELEASED A TRANSCRIPT FROM AN INTERVIEW Joe Paterno HAD WITH A STATE POLICE INVESTIGATOR AT HIS HOME IN LATE OCTOBER OF 2011.ACCORDING TO THE transcript RELEASED ON framingpaterno.com, THE COACH DISCUSSES THE 2001 LOCKER ROOM INCIDENT IN WHICH MIKE MCQUEARY SAW Jerry Sandusky in THE SHOWER WITH A YOUNG BOY. Paterno said it was inappropriate but THAT HE never heard specifics from McQueary. HE ALSO REITERATED THAT HE REPORTED THE INCIDENT TO TIM CURLEY, BUT DIDN’T FEEL HE HAD THE AUTHORITY TO MAKE ANY KIND OF DECISION ABOUT SANDUSKY BECAUSE HE HAD RETIRED FROM THE COACHING STAFF 2 OR 3 YEARS EARLIER.

JUBELIRER HAS A HEALTHY PENSION

THE NON-PROFIT VOTER EDUCATION ORGANIZATION “ROCK THE CAPITAL” SAYS FORMER STATE SENATOR ROBERT JUBELIERER RANKS 5TH ON THE LIST OF TOP 10 HIGHEST PENSIONS RECEIVED BY LEGISLATORS WHO VOTED FOR A SALARY INCREASE IN 2001 THAT INCREASED THEIR PENSIONS BY NEARLY 50-PERCENT. AN ARTICLE IN TODAY’S ALTOONA MIRROR SAYS JUBELIRER’S MONTHLY PENSION IS 75-HUNDRED-77-DOLLARS. JUBELIRER SAYS THAT PIECE OF LEGISLATION ALSO COVERED OTHER ISSUES.
