TROOPER KILLS ATTACKER ON THE TURNPIKE

MORE DETAILS ABOUT THAT FATAL SHOOTING ALONG THE TURNPIKE IN FULTON COUNTY TUESDAY NIGHT. STATE POLICE SAY A TROOPER KILLED 45 YEAR OLD DARYL BERRY OF COLUMBIA MARYLAND AFTER HE THREATENED THE OFFICER WITH 2 ROTTWEILER DOGS AND ATTACKED HIM WITH A METAL FLASHLIGHT.     IT ALL STARTED SHORTLY BEFORE 9PM WHEN BERRY WAS INVOLVED IN A TRAFFIC ACCIDENT EAST OF BREEZEWOOD. BERRY WAS SHOT 3 TIMES AND POLICE ARE NOW WAITING FOR TOXICOLOGY RESULTS. THE TROOPER WHO SHOT BERRY HAS NOT BEEN IDENTIFIED. HE WAS TREATED AND RELEASED AT ALTOONA REGIONAL HEALTH SYSTEM.

LAWSUIT SETTLED AFTER DEADLY SHOOTING

THE ALTOONA MIRROR REPORTS THAT EAST COAST GUN SALES HAS SETTLED A LAWSUIT OUT OF COURT WITH THE FAMILY OF MICHAEL KURTY OF HOLLIDAYSBURG WHO WAS KILLED IN 2007 WHILE HELPING THE PRESIDENT OF EAST COAST GUN SALES, JAMES FAITH, CLEAR A BULLET THAT HAD JAMMED IN A RE-BUILT MACHINE GUN. THE WEAPON WAS BEING DEMONSTRATED DURING A SOCIAL EVENT AT THE HOLLIDAYSBURG SPORTSMENS’ CLUB. KURTY WAS AN AUXILIARY POLICE OFFICER FOR THE DUNCANSVILLE POLICE DEPARTMENT. EAST COAST GUN SALES BEGAN A GOING-OUT-OF-BUSINESS SALE LAST MONTH AND THE FEDERAL BUREAU OF ALCOHOL, TOBACCO, FIREARMS, AND EXPLOSIVES HAS CONFIRMED IT IS INVESTIGATING THE COMPANY. AUTHORITIES WILL NOT RELEASE FURTHER DETAILS.

FATHER & SON BUSTED

THE CAMBRIA COUNTY SPECIAL EMERGENCY RESPONSE TEAM AND THE BOMB SQUAD SEARCHED  THE OLD RICH HILL MINES PROPERTY NEAR HASTINGS MONDAY THEN CHARGED JOHN KOLLAR AND HIS SON, BRADLEY, WITH RUNNING AN ILLEGAL “CHOP-SHOP.” POLICE FOUND STOLEN HEAVY EQUIPMENT AT THE SITE ALONG WITH OTHER STOLEN ITEMS AND SEVERAL BOXES OF COMMERCIAL GRADE FIREWORKS WHICH WERE DETONATED. COPS ALSO DISCOVERED A POSSIBLE METH LAB AND SOME EXPLOSIVE MATERIALS. JOHN KOLLAR MADE BAIL YESTERDAY, BUT BRADLEY IS IN THE COUNTY PRISON AND POLICE ARE STILL INVESTIGATING.

STILL MISSING

87-YEAR-OLD GEORGE RACHAEL OF DUNLO, CAMBRIA COUNTY, IS STILL MISSING AFTER DISAPPEARING SUNDAY IN HIS 2011 GREY FORD RANGER PICKUP. POLICE SAY THEY HAVE RECEIVED REPORTS OF PEOPLE SPOTTING HIM IN THE AREA, BUT NO CONTACT HAS BEEN MADE.

SANDUSKY WILL GET GRAND JURY TRANSCRIPTS

JERRY SANDUSKY AND HIS ATTORNEY WILL HAVE 10 DAYS TO REVIEW 580 PAGES OF TRANSCRIPTS OF GRAND JURY TESTIMONY BEFORE THE FIRST WITNESS IS SWORN IN FOR HIS TRIAL. THE RULING WAS MADE WEDNESDAY BY JUDGE BARRY FEUDALE WHO OVERSAW THE GRAND JURY THAT INVESTIGATED THE ALLEGATIONS AGAINST THE FORMER COACH. JURY SELECTION IS SCHEDULED TO BEGIN MAY 14TH. statecollege.com IS REPORTING THAT COURT AND COUNTY REPRESENTATIVES ARE ESTIMATING THAT THE TRIAL COULD LAST 2 TO 3 WEEKS. OFFICIALS ARE NOT PLANNING ANY STREET CLOSURES IN BELLEFONTE DURING THE TRIAL.

PATERNOVILLE SIGN FOUND

PENN STATE POLICE SAY THE “PATERNOVILLE” MARKER HAS BEEN RECOVERED, ABOUT A WEEK AFTER IT WAS STOLEN FROM OUTSIDE BEAVER STADIUM. A SUSPECT HAS BEEN IDENTIFIED AND CHARGES ARE EXPECTED. A SURVEILLANCE CAMERA SHOWED A DRIVER CAUSING ABOUT 23-THOUSAND DOLLARS IN DAMAGE TO STADIUM GATES, GRASS AND 2 SIGNS, INCLUDING THE PATERNOVILLE MARKER.
