AN ATTORNEY REPRESENTING HOLLIDAYSBURG BORO POLICE CHIEF JEFFREY KETNER TELLS THE ALTOONA MIRROR BORO OFFICIALS MADE A BIG MISTAKE AND HE’S HOPFUL THAT “REASONABLE MINDS” ON COUNCIL WILL PUT HIM BACK ON THE JOB. KETNER WAS PLACED ON PAID LEAVE LAST WEEK AND LAWYER MICHAEL WAGNER SAYS HE WAS DENIED DUE PROCESS AND THE BORO HAD NO LEGAL BASIS FOR ITS ACTION. DETAILS HAVE NOT BEEN RELEASED, BUT WAGNER THINKS POLITICS PLAYED A PART IN KETNER’S REMOVAL.

 

A Penn State student REMAINS in critical condition AT UPMC ALTOONA after being left for dead by a hit and run driver.
FERGUSON TOWNSHIP Police saY 21 year-old Eric Jones of Ambler is on a ventilator and not able to communicate. HE was walking along the 500 block of Blue Course Drive EARLY SUNDAY MORNING when he was struck and run over by the vehicle. Anyone wITH information about the driver is asked to call AUTHORITIES at 237-11-72.

 

ACCORDING TO THE FACEBOOK PAGE, The Altoona Police Department Is ASKING THE PUBLIC TO HELP TRACK DOWN A hit and run DRIVER. 2 legally parked vehicles WERE HIT EARLY SUNDAY MORNING on the 100 block of West 8th Avenue IN Juniata. The suspect vehicle is white and believed to be a mid size van, S-U-V or crossover. IT should have significant drivers side front  and side damage. Anyone with information SHOULD CALL 949-24-89 AND press option 1…or private message A-P-D Facebook.

 

NO NEW INFORMATION AFTER A MAN WAS SHOT AND KILLED SUNDAY MORNING IN JOHNSTOWN’S OAKHURST SECTION. POLICE SAY 42 YEAR OLD Tyrone Williams was shot at 13 times AND THEY KNOW OF no motive.

THE WEAPON HAS NOT BEEN FOUND AND POLICE DO NOT HAVE ANY suspectS. OFFICERS are reviewing surveillance video AND HOPING someone comes forward with information AND CALLS 1-800-281-16-80. WILLIAMS WAS SCHEDULED TO GRADUATE FROM THE CITY’S POLICE ACADEMY IN A FEW WEEKS. THIS IS the 5th deadly shooting in Cambria County THIS YEAR.

State Police in Bedford County say 45 year old William Maenner OF THE EVERETT AREA IS CHARGED WITH ATTEMPTED HOMICIDE AFTER an argument with his neighbor MONDAY AFTERNOON at an apartment complex along Ashcom Road.

Maenner ALLEGEDLY grabbed a loaded shotgun, fired one round away from the house before the neighbor was able to wrestle the gun away from him. Maenner IS ALSO ACCUSED OF GETTING a loaded handgun, kickING in ThE neighbor’s door, and firING several shots at him. One BULLET hit the victim in the hand.

Maenner is in the County Jail.



Altoona Police SAY DWIGHT COX OF EAST FREEDOM AND LARRY BOWMAN JUNIOR OF VIRGINIA ARE IN THE BLAIR COUNTY PRISON FOLLOWING A HIGH SPEED CHASE EARLY SATURDAY. AN OFFICER TRIED to stop THEIR CAR for a violation, BUT the driver fleD AND turnED onto a dead end road…THEN RAN AWAY. AFTER A foot CHASE, POLICE CAUGHT THE 2 MEN AND FOUND A HALF ounce of Cocaine that was packaged for delivery. Bowman had an outstanding arrest warrant in relation to the Corner Bar Investigation FROM A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO. PRELIMINARY HEARINGS ARE SCHEDULED NEXT WEDNESDAY.

 

STATE COLLEGE AND PENN STATE POLICE WERE KEPT BUSY OVER ARTSFEST WEEKEND BUT OFFICERS WERE MORE PRO-ACTIVE THAN RE-ACTIVE. The total number of police calls came in at 235, up from 171 in 2013. The number of citations issues for UNDERAGE DRINKING doubled from 15 to 30 and the number of public drunkenness offenses CLIMBED FRom 10 in 2013 to 24 this year. BORO Police only HANDED out 2 D-U-I citations, DOWN FROM 6 LAST YEAR.

THE CENTRE DAILY TIMES REPORTS THAT A project to honor Joe Paterno with a statue in downtown State College is apparently heading back to the bench. Last week the group Joe’s Bench UNVEILED A MODEL OF A STATUE THAT Showed the late Penn State football coach standing AND THAT led to confusion and complaints from some supporters. NOW the group IS changing course AND THE sculptor is working on a revised model. ABOUT 35-THOUSAND DOLLARS HAVE BEEN donated SO FAR. there is no time frame for when the final product could be installed.

State College Area School District Director of Physical Plant Ed Poprik gave the school board an update on the high school project Monday that included short-term and long-range plans. ACCORDING TO THE CENTRE DAILY TIMES, A traffic study SHOULD begin in August to determine where project designers will place 4-way intersections on Westerly Parkway. the core project team and the school district MET EARLIER THIS MONTH and will continue TO SIT DOWN on a bi-weekly basis. the next school board meeting IS July 28TH.
