SANDUSKY TRIAL

SO-CALLED VICTIM 4 SAYS JERRY SANDUSKY WROTE HIM “CREEPY LOVE LETTERS” DURING THE YEARS HE WAS MOLESTING HIM…AND EVEN DREW UP CONTRACTS THAT PROMISED MONEY IN EXCHANGE FOR SPENDING TIME TOGETHER. THE MAN…WHO IS NOW 28…SAYS HE MET SANDUSKY THROUGH THE SECOND MILE WHEN HE WAS 13.  SANDUSKY TOOK HIM ON TRIPS TO POST-SEASON FOOTBALL GAMES AND GAVE HIM OTHER GIFTS. THE ACCUSER TOLD THE JURY HE FEELS RESPONSIBLE FOR OTHER BOYS BEING ABUSED BECAUSE HE DIDN’T REPORT SANDUSKY’S BEHAVIOR. AND HE ALSO THINKS SANDUSKY’S WIFE, ADOPTED SON, AND FORMER PENN STATE COACH TOM BRADLEY WERE SUSPICIOUS ABOUT WHAT WAS GOING ON. DEFENSE ATTORNEY JOE AMENDOLA SAYS SANDUSKY DID NOTHING WRONG, BUT HE SUFFERS FROM A DISORDER THAT CAUSES HIM TO BE OVERLY AFFECTIONATE. THE PROSECUTION PLANS TO CALL 7 MORE MEN WHO TELL SIMILAR STORIES OF ABUSE.  

A BATTLE IS BREWING BETWEEN FORMER PENN STATE ADMINISTRATORS. THE ATTORNEYS FOR GARY SCHULTZ AND TIM CURLEY RESPONDED YESTERDAY TO AN NBC NEWS REPORT THAT SAID FORMER UNIVERSITY PRESIDENT GRAHAM SPANIER EXCHANGED EMAILS WITH THEM ABOUT REPORTING JERRY SANDUSKY’S BEHAVIOR TO POLICE. THE STORY SAYS INVESTIGATORS FOUND MAJOR NEW EVIDENCE THAT IMPLICATED THAT ALL PARTIES INVOLVED DECIDED NOT TO REPORT TO POLICE FOR “HUMANE” REASONS.

MINISTER’S RAPE TRIAL

IN BEDFORD COUNTY COURT TODAY, JURY SELECTION IS SCHEDULED TO BEGIN FOR THE TRIAL OF TRAVELING MINISTER REVEREND WALTER BRADSHAW OF NORTH CAROLINA WHO IS ACCUSED OF HAVING SEX WITH AN 11 YEAR OLD GIRL IN 2008. AUTHORITIES SAY THE GIRL WAS TAKEN BY HER MOTHER TO A BEDFORD MOTEL. THE MOTHER, GAZELLA OLDHAM, OF ALUM BANK, PLEADED NO CONTEST TO CHILD ENDANGERMENT, CRIMINAL SOLICITATION, AND UNLAWFUL CONTACT WITH A MINOR. SHE HAS NOT YET BEEN SENTENCED.

DOUBLE FATALITY

2 PEOPLE ARE DEAD AFTER A 2 VEHICLE ACCIDENT IN CAMBRIA COUNTY JUST AFTER 8 LAST NIGHT. POLICE SAY 2 PICKUP TRUCKS COLLIDED ALONG FRANKSTOWN ROAD IN RICHLAND TOWNSHIP. BOTH VICTIMS WERE IN THE SOUTHBOUND TRUCK AND NEITHER DRUGS NOR ALCOHOL IS SUSPECTED AS BEING A FACTOR IN THE ACCIDENT. THE VICTIMS’ NAMES HAVE NOT YET BEEN RELEASED.

POOL VICTIM DIED OF NATURAL CAUSES

THE BLUE KNOB WOMAN FOUND UNCONSCIOUS IN A SWIMMING POOL SUNDAY HAS DIED. THE BLAIR COUNTY CORONER’S OFFICE SAYS 50 YEAR OLD GERALDINE BALDINO DIED OF NATURAL CAUSES.

ELDERLY MAN MISSING

POLICE IN BLAIR COUNTY ARE LOOKING FOR A MISSING MAN WHO SUFFERS FROM DEMENTIA. 69 YEAR OLD DONALD CHAKEN WALKED OUT OF THE COLONIAL COURTYARD FACILITY IN TYRONE AROUND NOON MONDAY. HE’S 5-FOOT-9, 160 POUNDS, WITH GRAY HAIR AND BLUE EYES. HE WAS WEARING A DARK PLAID FLANNEL SHIRT.  

JAILTIME FOR DEADLY TEEN DRIVER

A BLAIR COUNTY JUDGE YESTERDAY SENTENCED 18 YEAR OLD DANIEL TUROUS OF VINTONDALE TO AT LEAST 3-AND-A-HALF YEARS IN PRISON. HE ENTERED AN OPEN GUILTY PLEA IN CONNECTION WITH THE 2010 CRASH THAT KILLED 16 YEAR OLD KELSEY MILLER OF NANTY GLO. TUROUS REJECTED A PLEA AGREEMENT THAT CALLED FOR HIM TO SPEND 5 TO 10 YEARS BEHIND BARS. TUROUS WAS 17 WHEN HE FLED FROM HOLLIDAYSBURG POLICE AND CRASHED INTO 2 BUILDINGS ALONG BLAIR STREET. SEVERAL OTHER PASSENGERS WERE HURT, BUT TUROUS FLED ON FOOT.

SENTENCING DAY FOR JOHNSTOWN KILLER

19 YEAR OLD DOMINIC BERRY OF JOHNSTOWN WILL GET AT LEAST 15 TO 30 YEARS IN PRISON WHEN HE’S SENTENCED TODAY BY A CAMBRIA COUNTY JUDGE.
LAST WEEK…JUST BEFORE JURY SELECTION WAS TO BEGIN…BERRY PLEADED GUILTY TO 3RD DEGREE MURDER IN THE DECEMBER SHOOTING DEATH OF 19 YEAR OLD DESEAN ALSTON AT THE SOLOMON HOMES. BERRY ALSO PLEADED GUILTY TO 2 COUNTS OF POSSESSING A FIREARM AND A DRUG CHARGE.

BATH SALTS OPERATION BUSTED

CAMBRIA COUNTY AUTHORITIES ARE CREDITING A HOUSEKEEPER AT THE EBENSBURG COMFORT INN FOR HELPING THEM MAKE A MAJOR DRUG BUST. THE WOMAN FOUND A SUSPICIOUS POWDERY SUBSTANCE IN A ROOM AND CALLED THE POLICE WHO SEIZED 29-THOUSAND DOLLARS WORTH OF BATH SALTS, METHADONE, VARIOUS DRUG-MAKING MATERIALS, AND 25-HUNDRED DOLLARS IN CASH. 28 YEAR OLD MELISSA MENTZER OF SUMMERHILL AND 38 YEAR OLD JOSEPH FRAZIER OF DUNCANSVILLE ARE IN THE COUNTY JAIL.

ANOTHER ALTOONA ROAD PROJECT

MILLING WORK BEGINS TODAY ON 6TH AND 7TH AVENUES IN ALTOONA BETWEEN 11TH AND 17TH STREETS. THE WESTBOUND LANES OF 17TH STREET WILL ALSO BE MILLED BETWEEN 5TH AND 6TH AVENUES. ALL WORK WILL BE DONE BETWEEN 6AM AND 9PM AND DELAYS ARE LIKELY. PAVING WILL FOLLOW THE MILLING AND SHOULD BE COMPLETED BY NEXT WEDNESDAY.
