MURDER TRIAL DELAYED YET AGAIN

BEDFORD COUNTY JUDGE DANIEL HOWZER SAYS THIS IS THE LAST DELAY HE IS GRANTING IN THE DEATH PENALTY TRIAL OF JOHN GERHOLT OF HUNTINGDON COUNTY. HE’S CHARGED WITH GUNNING DOWN HIS ESTRANGED WIFE, KAREN, IN THE EVERETT MCDONALDS PARKING LOT IN NOVEMBER 2008. DEFENSE ATTORNEY TOM DICKEY IS ALSO WORKING ON THE DOUBLE MURDER TRIAL OF NICHOLAS HORNER OF ALTOONA AND HAS HAD TROUBLE SCHEDULING WITNESSES FOR GERHOLT’S TRIAL. INSTEAD OF NEXT MONTH, JURY SELECTION WILL NOW BEGIN AUGUST 17TH.

YESTERDAY, THE ATTORNEY GENERAL’S OFFICE FILED A 15-PAGE RESPONSE TO THE REQUEST FROM SANDUSKY’S ATTORNEY JOE AMENDOLA. HE IS NOW REVIEWING THAT RESPONSE. JURY SELECTION IS SCHEDULED TO BEGIN MAY 14TH.

THE JUDGE DENIED CRITZ’S CHALLENGE EVEN THOUGH THE CRITZ CAMPAIGN HAD SUCCEEDED IN INVALIDATING HUNDREDS OF ALTMIRE’S PETITION SIGNATURES. THE JUDGE REFUSED TO INVALIDATE APPROXIMATELY 200 SIGNATURES COLLECTED BY A WOMAN WHO RENTED AN APARTMENT OUTSIDE THE DISTRICT, RULING THAT HER PARENTS’ HOME INSIDE THE DISTRICT SHOULD STILL BE CONSIDERED HER PERMANENT HOME. ALTMIRE AND CRITZ ARE SEEKING THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY’S NOMINATION IN A NEWLY RE-DRAWN DISTRICT CREATED BY REPUBLICANS.

THE ALTOONA MIRROR REPORTS THAT THE BLAIR COUNTY DISTRICT ATTORNEY’S OFFICE HAS FILED A REQUEST TO CONFISCATE 8 HOMES THAT RAMONE BROWN PURCHASED DURING THE YEARS POLICE CLAIM HE WAS A MAJOR DRUG DEALER. DRUG AGENTS SAY THEY MADE DRUG BUYS FROM BROWN AND FROM INDIVIDUALS LIVING IN 4 OF THE 8 HOUSES. BROWN IS SERVING 5 TO 10 YEARS ON A 2009 DRUG CONVICTION. HE HAD 26 PRIOR ARRESTS AND 17 PREVIOUS CONVICTIONS. THE JUDGE WILL HAVE TO DECIDE IF THE PROPERTIES CAN BE SEIZED.

PENNDOT WINTER BUDGET SURPLUS?
