SANDUSKY SCANDAL

PRIOR TO TOMORROW’S HEARING, 3 MOTIONS WERE FILED IN THE JERRY SANDUSKY CASE YESTERDAY …AND THAT MAKES A TOTAL OF 19 IN THE PAST WEEK. THE STATE ATTORNEY GENERAL’S OFFICE FILED A MOTION TO CHANGE THE DATE THAT SANDUSKY ALLEGEDLY ASSAULTED A BOY IN THE SHOWER. THEY ORIGINALLY CLAIMED THE INCIDENT TOOK PLACE AT THE LASCH BUILDING IN 2002, BUT THE DATE IS NOW FEBRUARY 9TH, 2001.IN A SECOND MOTION, PROSECUTORS DENIED THE DEFENSE ANY INFORMATION ON ANY INDIVIDUAL THAT IS STILL SUBJECT TO INVESTIGATION. AND CENTRE COUNTY CHILDREN AND YOUTH SERVICES FILED A MOTION ASKING THE JUDGE TO TOSS A SUBPOENA THEY RECEIVED FROM THE DEFENSE. SANDUSKY’S ATTORNEY, JOE AMENDOLA, SAYS THE FORMER COACH WILL NOT ATTEND TOMORROW’S HEARING.

PROF SUES PENN STATE

FORMER PENN STATE ASSISTANT ARCHITECTURE PROFESSOR DAVID CELANTO TELLS WJAC THAT HE’S SUING THE UNIVERSITY, CLAIMING HE LOST HIS JOB WHEN HE SPOKE UP ABOUT PROBLEMS WITH THE ARCHITECTURE PROGRAM. CELANTO SAYS HE VOCALLY ADDRESSED ISSUES WITH OUTDATED COMPUTERS AND SOFTWARE HINDERING HIS ABILITY TO TEACH STUDENTS 3-D MODELING. OFFICIALS AT PENN STATE SAY CELANTO WAS LET GO LAST APRIL FOR DOING A POOR JOB AND THE UNIVERSITY PLANS TO DEFEND ITSELF AGAINST THE SUIT.

LAW LICENSE SUSPENDED

FORMER BLAIR COUNTY JUDGE RICHARD BEHRENS RESIGNED MORE THAN 25 YEARS AGO AFTER FONDLING A YOUNG GIRL…AND NOW THE ALTOONA MIRROR REPORTS THAT HE’S BEEN SUSPENDED FROM THE PRACTICE OF LAW FOR INDECENTLY ASSAULTING AN 18 YEAR OLD FEMALE RELATIVE 4 YEARS AGO.
BEHRENS PLEADED O CONTEST TO INDECENT ASSAULT AND WAS SENTENCED TO 2 YEARS PROBATION. HE MUST ALSO UNDERGO COUNSELING. THE STATE SUPREME COURT DISCIPLINARY BOARD RECENTLY ISSUED THE SUSPENSION ORDER AND BEHRENS HAS 30 DAYS TO CLOSE OUT HIS HOLLIDAYSBURG OFFICE.

FATHER’S HOMICIDE TRIAL IN SEPTEMBER

A CAMBRIA COUNTY JUDGE HAS ORDERED A SOUTH FORK FATHER TO STAND TRIAL IN SEPTEMBER FOR KILLING HIS 7 WEEK OLD SON IN A SHAKEN BABY CASE. JURY SELECTION FOR 24 YEAR OLD JUSTIN CHARLES IS SET TO BEGIN SEPTEMBER 17TH, WITH TESTIMONY TO OPEN THE 24TH. CHARLES IS CHARGED WITH 3RD-DEGREE MURDER, CRIMINAL HOMICIDE, AGGRAVATED ASSAULT AND RELATED OFFENSES IN THE DEATH OF 7-WEEK-OLD JUSTIN JUNIOR ON DECEMBER 23RD AT CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL IN PITTSBURGH.

100-PLUS RESIDENTS EVACUATED

MORE THAN 100 PEOPLE WERE EVACUATED MONDAY AFTERNOON WHEN FIRE BROKE OUT AT THE QUEMAHONING TOWERS APARTMENT BUILDING IN WINDBER. THE FIRE MARSHAL SAYS THE ELECTRICAL BLAZE WAS CAUSED BY A POWER STRIP. BECAUSE IT’S A BLOCK BUILDING, THE FLAMES WERE CONTAINED TO ONE UNIT. ONCE FIREFIGHTERS CLEARED THE SCENE, RESIDENTS WERE ALLOWED BACK INTO THEIR HOMES.

CONGRESSMAN ENDORSES FORMER CHALLENGER

DEMOCRATIC CONGRESSMAN JASON ALTMIRE BELIEVES IT'S IMPORTANT FOR CONGRESSMAN MARK CRITZ TO GO BACK TO WASHINGTON. ALTMIRE ENDORSED CRITZ YESTERDAY, JUST WEEKS AFTER LOSING A VERY BITTER PRIMARY. BOTH MEN SAY THEY'RE FRIENDS AND HAVE NO PROBLEM WITH EACH OTHER. CRITZ FACES REPUBLICAN KEITH ROFTUS IN NOVEMBER.

NO TAX HIKE FOR ALTOONA SCHOOL DISTRICT

THE ALTOONA AREA SCHOOL BOARD PASSED A PRELIMINARY BUDGET LAST NIGHT THAT HOLDS THE LINE OF PROPERTY TAXES. IT ALSO CALLS FOR NO PROGRAM CUTS OR EMPLOYEE FURLOUGHS. THE 88-MILLION DOLLAR PACKAGE INCLUDES MORE MONEY FOR ADMINISTRATORS’ SALARIES, BUT 6 TEACHING POSITIONS WILL BE CUT WHEN TEACHERS RETIRE AT THE END OF THIS SCHOOL YEAR. THE BUDGET IS ON DISPLAY FOR THE NEXT 30 DAYS AT THE DISTRICT’S BUSINESS OFFICE.

DANCING REGULATIONS AT ALTOONA PROM

NO GRINDING ALLOWED AT ALTOONA HIGH SCHOOL’S PROM ON MAY 18TH. THE MESSAGE AT A RECENT ASSEMBLY WAS THAT STUDENTS MUST DANCE FACE TO FACE OR DISCIPLINARY ACTION WILL BE TAKEN AND COULD LEAD TO STUDENTS BEING ASKED TO LEAVE THE DANCE. STUDENTS HAVE STARTED A PETITION AT change.org WHICH ALREADY HAS NEARLY 200 SIGNATURES.
