LOUIS FREEH REPORT TO BE RELEASED TOMORROW

THE WAIT IS ALMOST OVER FOR THOSE WONDERING IF PENN STATE OFFICIALS COVERED UP JERRY SANDUSKY’S ABUSE OF CHILDREN…AND THE HIGHLY ANTICIPATED LOUIS FREEH REPORT WILL BE RELEASED THURSDAY. STARTING AT 9AM, THE REPORT WILL BE AVAILABLE ON-LINE AT www.thefreehreportonpsu.com. INVESTIGATORS WILL HOLD A NEWS CONFERENCE TOMORROW AT 10AM IN PHILADELPHIA AND UNIVERSITY TRUSTEES ARE EXPECTED TO RESPOND SHORTLY THEREAFTER. UNIVERSITY OFFICIALS ARE NOT GETTING A SNEAK PEAK AT THE REPORT. THE FREEH COMMISSION INTERVIEWED HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE AT PENN STATE.

THE PATERNO FAMILY SAYS THEY WERE NOT GIVEN AN OPPORTUNITY TO PRESENT THEIR SIDE OF THE STORY TO INVESTIGATORS IN FREEH’S PROBE.
IN A STATEMENT, THE PATERNO FAMILY SAID THEY HAVE BECOME INCREASINGLY CONCERNED ABOUT THE CONFIDENTIALITY OF THE REPORT. SELECT EMAILS AND INFORMATION CRITICAL OF JOE PATERNO HAVE BECOME PUBLIC IN RECENT WEEKS. THE FAMILY PROMISES TO RESPOND TO THE REPORT AS NEEDED IN THE COMING WEEKS.

LAWYERS FOR FORMER PENN STATE PRESIDENT GRAHAM SPANIER SAY HE MET WITH INVESTIGATORS HIRED BY THE UNIVERSITY ON JULY 6TH AND TOLD THEM THAT HE WAS NEVER NOTIFIED OF ANY CRIMINAL INCIDENTS INVOLVING JERRY SANDUSKY DURING HIS 16 YEARS AS PRESIDENT. THEY CLAIM SELECTED LEAKS ARE DISTORTING THE PUBLIC RECORD AND CREATING A FALSE PICTURE. THE UNIVERSITY HAS SPENT MILLIONS ON THE LOUIS FREEH INVESTIGATION. SPANIER WAS FORCED OUT BY TRUSTEES FOLLOWING SANDUSKY’S ARREST IN NOVEMBER, BUT HE REMAINS ON THE FACULTY.

PENN STATE TERM LIMITS

FOLLOWING THE SANDUSKY SCANDAL, RYAN MCCOMBIE WILL SOON BE ONE OF THE NEW ALUMNI MEMBERS ON THE PENN STATE BOARD OF TRUSTEES…AND HE SAYS HE PLANS TO PUSH FOR A TERM LIMITATION FOR THE NEXT UNIVERSITY PRESIDENT. UNDER HIS PROPOSAL, THE PRESIDENT WOULD ONLY BE ABLE TO SERVE FOR 10 YEARS AND MEMBERS OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES WOULD ONLY SERVE 9 YEARS. MCCOMBIE SAYS THE IDEA OF POWER IS SOMETHING THAT HAS NEGATIVELY AFFECTED THE UNIVERSITY.

TEENS KILLED

2 TEENS ARE DEAD, AND 2 OTHERS SERIOUSLY INJURED AFTER A CRASH IN FULTON COUNTY. POLICE SAY 18-YEAR-OLD BRYANT WHITE AND 17-YEAR-OLD CODY GRACEY WERE KILLED EARLY YESTERDAY WHEN WHITE'S VEHICLE LEFT THE ROADWAY AND STRUCK SEVERAL TREES IN WELLS TANNERY. 18-YEAR-OLD CHEYENNE HEGE AND 19-YEAR-OLD WILLIAM HESS WERE AIRLIFTED FOR TREATMENT OF MAJOR INJURIES.

KILLED BY TRAIN

A 21 YEAR OLD CUMBERLAND MARYLAND MAN IS DEAD AFTER BEING HIT BY A TRAIN IN BEDFORD COUNTY. AUTHORITIES SAY THE VICTIM WAS RUNNING ACROSS THE TRACKS IN HYNDMAN WHEN HE TRIPPED AND FELL. HE WAS PRONOUNCED DEAD AT THE SCENE. IT IS UNKNOWN AT THIS POINT IF ALCOHOL WAS INVOLVED.  TOXICOLOGY REPORTS ARE PENDING.

GUNMAN STILL AT LARGE

CAMBRIA COUNTY CRIMESTOPPERS IS OFFERING A CASH REWARD FOR INFORMATION LEADING TO THE ARREST OF 27 YEAR OLD SHY TY-QUON LAWTON WHO IS CONSIDERED ARMED AND DANGEROUS…AND WHO MAY BE IN NEW JERSEY. LAWTON FAILED TO SHOW UP FOR A HEARING LAST WEEK IN CONNECTION WITH A 2010 CASE…AND JOHNSTOWN POLICE SAY LAWTON SHOT CARDELL CLINTON OUTSIDE OF EDDER’S DEN BAR IN OAKHURST ON JUNE 25TH. CLINTON CLIMBED INTO HIS COUSIN’S CAR, AND ELIP CHEATHAM ALLEGEDLY ACCELERATED TOWARD POLICE OFFICERS WHO SHOT AND KILLED HIM. STATE POLICE ARE STILL INVESTIGATING THE SHOOTING AND THEIR REPORT SHOULD BE RELEASED IN ABOUT 3 WEEKS.

COURTHOUSE CAMERAS

BLAIR COUNTY COMMISSIONERS HAVE SIGNED OFF ON A MAJOR SECURITY UPGRADE AT THE COURTHOUSE IN HOLLIDAYSBURG. OVER THE NEXT COUPLE OF WEEKS, A PRIVATE SECURITY AND ELECTRONICS FIRM WILL EXPAND AND RENOVATE THE CURRENT SECURITY CAMERA NETWORK, ADDING 20 MORE CAMERAS FOR A TOTAL OF 30. THE PROJECT WILL COST BETWEEN 60 AND 100-THOUSAND DOLLARS, BUT COUNTY OFFICIALS CAN COVER IT WITH PART OF A RECENT COUNTY BOND ISSUE FOR CAPITAL IMPROVEMENTS.    

RISING GAS PRICES

GAS PRICES HAD BEEN MOVING IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION, BUT TRIPLE A FUEL GAUGE SAYS THE CURRENT AVERAGE IN WESTERN PA IS $3.40, UP 1-POINT-8 CENTS PER GALLON FROM A WEEK AGO. ALTOONA-AREA DRIVERS WATCHED PRICES JUMP FROM $3.19…TO $3.29…TO $3.35. TODAY’S NATIONAL AVERAGE IS $3.38.
