STATE TROOPER SHOT IN JEFFERSON COUNTY -

A STATE TROOPER WAS SHOT AND CRITICALLY WOUNDED THURSDAY AFTERNOON WHEN HE ATTEMPTED TO SERVE A WARRANT TO A HOME OWNED BY KENNETH LEES, SENIOR ON CEMETARY ROAD OUTSIDE OF BROCKWAY, JEFFERSON COUNTY. THE SHOOTING SUSPECT BARRICADED HIMSELF INSIDE THE HOME. BROCKWAY SCHOOLS WERE LOCKED DOWN BUT STUDENTS WERE ALLOWED TO LEAVE AT ABOUT 6 LAST EVENING. THE MAN REMAINED INSIDE THE HOME OVERNIGHT WITH POLICE STILL ON THE SCENE.. NO NAMES HAVE BEEN RELEASED. POLICE PLAN TO HOLD A PRESS CONFERENCE LATER TODAY WITH DETAILS.

MEGAN’S LAW VIOLATOR ARRESTED –

A MAN WANTED BY ALTOONA POLICE FOR FAILING TO REGISTER HIS ADDRESS WITH THE MEGAN’S LAW UNIT HAS BEEN ARRESTED. 19-YEAR-OLD LOGAN WILKINSON IS NOW IN CUSTODY IN WILLIAMSPORT. A TIP PROVIDED POLICE WITH INFORMATION LEADING TO WILKINSON’S ARREST.

NCAA WANTS PATERNO ESTATE LAWSUIT TOSSED-

THE NCAA BELIEVES THAT THE JOE PATERNO ESTATE LAWSUIT AGAINST THE ASSOCIATION SHOULD BE THROWN OUT BECAUSE IT IS “FATALLY FLAWED” AND THAT THE “PLAINTIFFS DON’T HAVE STANDING TO CHALLENGE THE CONSENT AGREEMENT” BETWEEN THE NCAA AND PENN STATE. ACCORDING TO THE FILING BY THE NCAA IN CENTRE COUNTY COURT YESTERDAY, THEY ALSO BELIEVE THE SUIT CONTAINS “SUNDRY MISDIRECTED COMPLAINTS”. THE LAWSUIT WAS FILED IN MAY IN AN ATTEMPT TO OVERTURN THE SANCTIONS LEVIED AGAINST PENN STATE AS A RESULT OF THE JERRY SANDUSKY SCANDAL. A HEARING IS SCHEDULED FOR OCTOBER 29TH.

ACCUSED ROBBER FACES ADDITIONAL CHARGES –

A MAN WHO WAS ARRESTED FOR ROBBING THE NITTANY BUDGET MOTEL IN STATE COLLEGE ON WEDNESDAY MORNING FACES ADDITIONAL CHARGES. 25-YEAR-OLD JONATHAN TENALIO WILL ALSO BE CHARGED BY STATE COLLEGE POLICE WITH ROBBING COVE PIZZA THIS PAST MONDAY AND IS EXPECTED TO BE CHARGED WITH BURGLARIZING DOAN’S BONES IN HUNTINGDON COUNTY EARLIER IN THE WEEK. THE HANDGUN USED IN THE ROBBERIES HAS NOT BEEN RECOVERED. POLICE SAY THE CRIMES WERE DRUG-RELATED. TENALIO IS IN THE CENTRE COUNTY CORRECTIONAL FACILITY. HIS PRELIMINARY HEARING IS ON OCTOBER 2ND.

MINK RELEASED FROM EBENSBURG FUR FARM –

ABOUT 500 MINK WERE RELEASED FROM A MINK FARM IN EBENSBURG ON THURSDAY. THE MINK WERE RELEASED BY THE “ANIMAL LIBERATION FRONT”, AN INTERNATIONAL ANIMAL RIGHTS GROUP THAT WORKS TO REMOVE ANIMALS FROM LABORATORIES AND FARMS. A LETTER FROM THE GROUP SAID THAT THE MINK RELEASE WAS PART OF ITS “OPERATION BITE BACK” CAMPAIGN. EBENSBURG POLICE SAID FARM EMPLOYEES WERE TRYING TO RECOVER THE MINK,
